2008 IRS Tax Stimulus Rebates Starting in May the IRS will begin sending out the economic stimulus payments, also known as tax rebates. To qualify most South Dakotans simply need to file their 2007 individual income tax returns to receive their payment. The IRS will use information on the tax return to determine eligibility and calculate the amount of the stimulus payments. However, some South Dakotans are not required to file tax returns due to low-income or certain non-taxable benefits. Those individuals will have to file a 2007 tax return to qualify for the rebates. For more information go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and click on the link Rebate Questions. Individuals who need to file a return this year to receive a stimulus payment may be able to take advantage of thousands of free tax preparation sites nationwide for low-income and elderly taxpayers.
